Despite the promises of the last twenty years, the Isahek river is flooding again. When a tax collector is shot by its banks, the provincial court must respond to the rising violence. The members of the court vie for control, all the while their system of governance is on a steep decline. A story about environmental disaster, “rational” governance, and what it means to have power over death.

• This is a comic intended for a mature audience. I will include specific content warnings per chapter, but in general, this comic deals with themes of state violence, interpersonal bigotry, and death. Use your best discretion with regards to whether this is a story you are interested in. 
• I cast a fairly wide net with regards to real-world inspiration. Where relevant, and where I remember, I will try to point out any specific history or reference that has inspired the visuals of this comic, but I will probably not be exhaustive. This note is an acknowledgement that, in many ways, invented cultures are a flattening of real ones, and that I am indebted to the many historians, artists, and regular people, living and dead, that have guided me in the development of this story.
• If you want to see/read more about the worldbuilding and development of this comic, support me on Patreon! I will be posting a “director’s commentary” of pages on there, with more discussion on what is going on in this universe.
